Hugos, Locus, and Clarkesworld

So much crazy cool stuff yesterday! I finished my novel, and then!

Got word that The Radiant Car Thy Sparrows Drew was voted best story of the year at Clarkesworld (tied with Nnedi Okorafor's awesome story The Lost Diary of Treefrog7)! That's my second year as #1, and I'm blown away. I totally even forgot that poll was happening. Already working on my Clarkesworld story for this year--it's such a good publication, you guys.

Palimpsest, The Radiant Car Thy Sparrows Drew, and my Hansel and Gretel retelling from Troll's Eye View, A Delicate Architecture, ALL made the Locus Recommended Reading list! Man, even the first Orphan's Tales book didn't make that list. It's also an AWESOME list, full of fantastically good books, and I'm so thrilled to see so many of my friends on it--I feel generational, y'all. Plus, my favorite short story of the year and Hugo pick, each thing i show you is a piece of my death from Clockwork Phoenix 2, made it! I wish I could get ahold of a hard copy to read the essays--I will see if anyone in southern Maine possesses it.

Speaking of Hugos, many people have been asking me what of mine is eligible. The answer is: Palimpsest, Palimpsest, Palimpsest. If you want to support my work and put a smile on my face, a vote for Palimpsest will do it. Everything else I'm about to list is also eligible, though, if you liked one of them better. I actually don't know if Fairyland is eligible--it might be, but I don't know. It's pretty tough to get YA fantasy in there, regardless. Thank you to everyone who told me they wanted to vote for something of mine--here's your list! (Same as the Nebulas, for which voting is still open and Fairyland remains eligible for the Andre Norton. It's doing well in the polls but slipping, I hope some last minute votes put it back in the running, but I'm being zen.)

Obviously, this would mean the most to me--Palimpsest was in many ways an orphaned novel, surrounded by lay-offs and championed not by its publisher but by its readers.

Under In the Mere
Sadly, I think this is a hair too long to qualify in the novella category, and is a long shot given how weird it is--but hey.

The Radiant Car Thy Sparrows Drew

I love this story with a great love, and I think some of you did too. If you haven't read it yet, please do! I think I am probably turning this into a novel.

Golubash, or Wine-War-Blood-Elegy

Yay, first SF story ever!

The Anachronist's Cookbook

This got zero attention, mostly because it was only available on an app for the iPhone for a long time. But finally, I have gotten permission to post the story for free on my website! All my issues with steampunk in fiction form!

Proverbs of Hell

This story about love between a monk and a demon just came out in The Stories Between, an anthology to benefit and celebrate the awesome indie bookstore Between Books. It's basically filled with storied by authors who have read at the store over the years, and is GORGEOUS besides. Check it out!

A Delicate Architecture

This was the first YA piece I ever wrote--a Hansel and Gretel story, following the witch's childhood and the root of her obsession with candy.

Thank you to everyone who votes! If you are a voting member of Worldcon, I will provide free e-copies of any of these that are not available online on request. Just email me.

And now I go home today! Yay!
