Readercon and Everything Else

I have a piano!

Yesterday, like a real adult, I bought a piano (from a guy on craigslist, so it was cheap, beautiful, and perfect). I've wanted one forever, my mother always had one, I played as a child, but as my ex-husband's musicality always trumped mine in any discussion of instrument-purchasing, I never got one of my own. It would never have been mine, it would only have been his. Also they are expensive, but I won this little gender award awhile back, so suddenly I could afford it.

It's gorgeous, I love it, we did manage to get it home with only me hurting my back again--dammit--and it turns out I can remember at least three songs I used to play. I now have to learn again, but I'm thrilled to pieces and pieces. It also turns out that the guy selling it works for a big festival and wants to have SJ and I play/read there this year, so that was weird and fabulous. (s00j, I'll get you details, I have to send him a press kit.)

It also seems we may have Boston space for the Orphan's Tales art show, which means our basic tour is complete--we are looking to add shows in Philadelphia, Ann Arbor, St. Louis, and New Haven though, if anyone in or around those cities wants to host a house concert or knows a place that would host the show--probably without art though, we want to limit the travelling of the fragile shinies. But at any subsequent show there will be a photo album of the art so everyone can see what you guys made.

On top of that, tonight I am leaving for Readercon. grailquestion is partner in crime this time out, and we are driving through the night, so that should be horrific/fun. We're listening to the Snow Crash audiobook and probably imbibing an entire tropical nation's worth of coffee. The following is my schedule for the con--please do come to one of the many events. I hope I'll see lots of you guys there!

(A "poetry slan," to be confused with "poetry slam," is a poetry reading by sf
folks, of course.)  Climaxed by the presentation of this year's Rhysling Awards.

(Yes, I'm up for the Rhysling, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up--I thing three awards in one year is way pushing my luck. But I'll be reading The Eight Legs of Grandmother Spider)

Sunday  10:00 AM.  Mythic 2 Group Reading (60 min.)
Mike Allen (host), Sonya Taaffe, Catherynne M. Valente, with John Benson and Leah Bobet

Sunday  12:00 Noon.  Interfictions Group Reading (60 min.)

That is very, very many readings for me. If you only come to one, please come to the Orphan's Tales one--it's the first time I'll be reading from the new book!
