The Old Familiar Ride

We're driving from Salem to San Francisco over the next two days. Over the Siskiyous, down the long golden center of I-5. I first drove that length when I was 18, from Sacramento to Seattle. Now I go back, with my gypsy tribe, singing all the way. Maybe even stopping in Ashland, where my mother took me to see Shakespeare when I was small.

This is the last leg of the contiguous tour. On the 30th justbeast  and I fly to Detroit for Penguicon (is there anyone in the area who can put us up for the night of the 30th? Our hotelage starts on the 1st). We're doing a little birthday dinner in Cleveland on Sunday night, if anyone wants to come. Then s00j  and I perform at Wiscon, and the tour is over officially at our June 2nd show.

In between? I got my birthday surprise early. justbeast  is flying me home, to Seattle, to the city where I was born, so that I can turn 30 there, with s00j  and my Seattle tribe. I meeped when he told me--it is such an extravagance, and the Seattle folk are new friends and I hope they do not mind me there again...but it feels good and right to be in the place of my making on my actual birthday. Then home to the East Coast--god, I never thought I would think of the East Coast as home, the little states, the steeples, the cities!--for long-planned party on the 9th at the Algonquin Hotel with my New England tribe. Because I am a lit geek, and it thrills me to become an adult in that place. Evites have been sent out--if you haven't received one, holler.

Then finally, finally, true home, our island, and our dogs, and our house with the blue steps. At last.

There are three shows left. Two in SF and one in LA. You guys have been telling me to come to California for years, so take advantage--the more people come, the likelier we are to return.
