Fairyland 2 Cover Joy

The ARCs arrived on my doorstep over the weekend. The illustrations are heartbreakingly amazing. The cover is…well. Just look.

September has longed to return to Fairyland after her first adventure there. And when she finally does, she learns that its inhabitants have been losing their shadows–and their magic–to the world of Fairyland Below. This underworld has a new ruler: Halloween, the Hollow Queen, who is September’s shadow. And Halloween does not want to give Fairyland’s shadows back.

Fans of Valente’s bestselling first Fairyland book will revel in the lush setting, characters, and language of September’s journey, and welcome back good friends Ell, the Wyverary, and the boy Saturday. But in Fairyland Below, even the best of friends aren’t always what they seem…

Eeeeeeeee. It’s so, so beautiful. What do you think?

It comes out October 2nd. You can pre-order it here.

My class got very excited when they heard you were writing a sequel. They got very keen, very quickly, on the title "Shadowsearch" so you'll probably get some letters suggesting that :-) Also frantically scrawled notes on scraps of paper by kids who can't spell "AWESOME" but just *had* to write to you as soon as I'd finished the last sentence. I haven't got the package together yet but it'll come over the summer.

I can't believe this is actually coming out in October! They'll go crazy for it. I'm so excited to think about them tackling all the long words by themselves! (heh - teacher-geekery) It feels a bit like pushing fledglings out of the nest and shouting after them "There's a loooooong drop! You'll learn to fly on the way!"

ZOMG! Stunning!!!!

Sooooooo Happy for you!!!!!!!!!! =)

Congratulations I look forward to reading the whole thing

I love it. And I've been so disappointed by so many book covers of late.

oh my word.

So. Much. Love.

That is made of total fabulous.

Oh hooray! That looks great!

Oh, wow. This looks...wow!

That's an awfully pretty cover. I like it better, even, than the first cover.

OH GOSHHHHH, SO EXCITED. I just read Silently and Very Fast yesterday and was just thinking to myself that I couldn't wait for the next installment of Fairyland to come out.

And the cover is absolutely gorgeous. ♥ That cooooooat...

Love it. I love that they changed the palette too, but there's nice tie-in with the Wyverary.

Lovely! I just pre-ordered two copies through my local independent bookshop.

That is a fabulous cover. I can't wait to read the book.

Gorgeous. So excittttttteeeeed.

Oh my goodness, that is the most beautiful thing! I am so excited to read it!

Wonderful and fabulous and awesome!

OMG! So, so, soooo totally cool! It is gorgeous. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship Of Her Own Making was my absolute favourite book of 2012 and it's probably in my all time top 10. I have been looking forward to this ever since Seanan McGuire mentioned it to me at Worldcon last year. October is going to be a great month for September.

OOoooooooooh!! That's beautiful!

Awesome! I shall re-read "Circumnavigated" sometime before now and October!

I love this cover deeply, and I am SO EXCITED for this book - I can't wait to take another trip to Fairyland with September just before my wedding.

I am so sad that I will likely be on tour for your wedding. :( (Come to Worldcon with Cylia and I!)

Worldcon is in Chicago from Aug 30th to Sept 3rd (according to Google)? Giant Sadface - that's PAX Weekend, aka The Only Vacation That Sarah and Peter Ever Take Together.

Oh, well, we can figure something else out - I miss you too much to wait for your next West Coast trip to see you again!

Ooh, this is just gorgeous! There will be arguments whenit comes out as to whihc of us get to read it first.

And the neices Christmas presents are now sorted! One for each of them, like last year.

The cover is intriguing and reminds me of John Tenniel's original drawings for Alice in Wonderland. Awesome!

I love this cover - and the eye-popping colour.

I recently finished the first Fairyland book, which I really liked- and reading it I just kept think about how much I really like the illustrations. YA is almost the only place where illustration is still used today.

I have a secret ambition about doing an exhibition about book illustration if I ever get into a position to do so.

Yaay! Pre-ordered from my local indy bookstore! And I think Circumnavigated is going to be my nephew's birthday present this year. 9th birthday is June, which will mean I can then get him Beneath for Christmas. So extra Yay for solving gift list questions!

Oh, it's beautiful! Do you know if there are any plans to make this one available for Kindle as well?

It'll be available on every platform--this one is published by a major house, not online.

October 2 is my birthday...

They are lovely, would go ver nicely with my ARC of Fairyland I! ;)

OH! It's like the shiniest, most wonderful toy ever. The one with a glass front and whirling cogs and little chiming bells that sing so sweetly.
