Some Things In My World

I have things to tell you!

One, I will be Guest of Honor at Mythcon in Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend. Come and see me give a long talk about fairy tales and medievalism! Drink with me! I have a few extra days to hang out in town, so I hope folks will come out to play. Also I will get to see some of my family there, as my aunt and uncle and cousins are coming to see me! This is the first time any of my "people who have known me since I was born" family who will have come to a con. Eeeps!

I'll also be doing a reading/signing on Sunday at noon at Alamosa Books in ABQ--please come out and listen! I'll do a Q & A with the usual dry humor as well.

Also! I am now doing a regular podcast with my buddies seanan_mcguire  , matociquala  , Paul Cornell, and Lynne Thomas. It is called SFSqueeCast, and you can find out all about it here. In it, we are all positive about things we like! Therefore, you can be sure that once a month I will be eaten by a pod person who will say kind, gentle things about books and movies in my voice.

Also also! My story The Wolves of Brooklyn is in this month's Fantasy Magazine--will be available for free on the 18th, but available now to subscribers. It is about giant wolves eating people in Brooklyn, and inspired by a stray regyt   comment last winter. You want to read it.

Also also also! In seven little days, a massive prequel novelette to The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making will go up on Tor.com. It is called The Girl Who Ruled Fairyland--For a Little While, and it is about Queen Mallow, in her salad days. AND they hired Ana Juan to illustrate it OMG. Thus, it will be beautiful, and perhaps tide you kids over til the Fairyland sequel comes out next year.

Finally, GRUDGINGLY, I am on Google+ as Cat Valente. I don't trust it, and want it off my lawn. But the Hangout thing might be worth it. Writing dates, you know? Pair it with Turntable, with which I am currently obsessed...awesome?

I am probably forgetting things.

New house pics tonight!

Prequel! Podcast! YAY!

And congratulations again on the new house!

Google+ hangouts, plus a friend here in person for a weekend, made it possible for me to Pack All The Books. ~30 boxes, plus a car-trunkful donated, a month and two days before the movers arrive. I'm keeping an eye on the privacy settings, but right now? I'm totally sold on it.

It's just a lot of work to build another social network that doesn't seem to feed from twitter, FB, or LJ that well. Bleh.

Oh, I facepalm. I don't actually want LJ/nym and passport-name social networks to connect with each other, since one is full of employers who may be unpredictably twitchy and the other is full of socializing.

But for me, they are one and the same. I don't post stuff on the internet I don't want everyone to see--my work involves being loud online.

I sometimes wish I'd picked a life that could include purple hair and unfiltered LJ posts. Ah, well. I am always me, even if I don't show everybody all my shiny facets.

Anyway. Until they come up with an...extension? a widget? to connect g+ and LJ I don't know if it'll be worth your while.

The new podcast sounds awesome. And you sound happy! I am glad! May you reign supreme in New Mexico, Catling-gun!

The podcast is a gem. I can't wait for the next one. :D

Yes. Yes, I do.

1. Podcast! Of some of my favorite people! Awesome! (also: Ayeee! Not enough time in the week!)

2. Prequel! So there.

3. I so wish I were making Mythcon this year. At least I got all my votes in on time, but wanna be -there-.

4. G+ has some potential. Will see how it develops; really we need more ways to unify social networks, not more social networks, but Google gets some credit for doing many things right.

There are so many happy stories being told all over my internets today! Hooray for all of yours! I'm very far behind on reading everyone's posts, but I'm looking forward to reading all about The Briary.

I live in Albuquerque (technically, just outside of it, in the East Mountains)! I shall try to come see you! I'm glad you made this announcement because I didn't know about Mythcon, nor have I ever heard of Alamosa Books. Yay! I hope you enjoy your time here.

Mythcon sounds like lots of fun!

O.O A prequel and a sequel. This news is the biggest slice of black forest cake at the end of a satisfying meal and I can't say no to sweet things~. XD

I will be at MythCon! It's going to be my very first conference presentation (on Morgan le Fay and paganism and faeries and other such good things) and my first time hearing/hopefully meeting my favorite author (you!) in person :). I'm so glad you wrote that post about being flustered when you meet people who inspire you because I'm sure I'm going to be very nervous... very excited for everything though! :). I hope I will be able to get to the reading too!

Yay! It will be awesome to meet you.

I did not know about MythCon! I live in Santa Fe, so I might just have to tootle down to Abq sometime this weekend to see what's up. :)

Also, you should make a sojourn up to Santa Fe. There are lots of awesome things to do here (particularly as a touristy person), and some great food.
