I have a superpower. And that superpower is letting my coffee get cold.

I always have good intentions, but then I set it down and get involved in working and then seemingly instantaneously--POW, my coffee is ice cold.

Which means I drink a lot of not quite iced not really even warm coffee. And then I remember, when I taste the hot stuff, how good it is hot. justbeast laughs at me a lot about this, and my common cry for justice/the microwave is I USED MY SUPERPOWER.

But! I have found my kryptonite! And it is so awesome, I had to tell you guys. Because on Etsy no one can hear you scream it can be hard to find things that don't look like a 3rd grader made them for mother's day.

THIS defeats my superpower:



See how the bottom of the super-sweet rammy face is pointed? THIS MEANS I CAN'T PUT IT DOWN AND FORGET IT. I have to sit and enjoy my coffee all at once, which means not doing much else while I do it, which slows down my morning and is totally great. It's so odd how one little mug can actually affect my life for the better. Also I need a new superpower.

Also do you see how gorgeous that thing is? It is from this seller on Etsy, Chischilly Pottery, and I'm longing for more from them as we speak.

Hooray for awesome artists and their beautiful work. And for hot coffee, I say huzzah!

I share your superpower, but I can't stand cold coffee.

At the office-office, I have a little coffee-cup-sized hot plate, so as long as I'm at work, the coffee never gets cold, it just gets more Army coffee. And if you forget and leave it on, the next morning you have a cup of Coffee Glue.

At the home office, I either wind up microwaving it, or pouring in another half a cup of hot coffee. And the more I work at home, the more I think I really ought to get another one of those little coffee-cup-sized hot plates.

I was just the other day admiring a drinking horn in the ancient exhibit at the Walters art museum that had a ram head very like this on one side, and a donkey on the other (and signage about how it was all dual natured Bacchic ritual symbolic of the sober self and the drunk self.) It makes me terribly happy to know that people are out there making such things for modern use!

Turns out they even have a picture of the donkey side on their website. Although come to think of it, just having the ram side is more appropriate for coffee...

Around here we call that Ambient Coffee, because it's too warm to be iced and too cold to be hot. It's just ambient temperature.

That mug, however? That is a thing beauty! It's like a drinking horn, but purdier.

b) That settles it. When my life resumes I am totally getting back into pottery. There's even a new studio here in town I can join and use their cool pottery tools for $35/month.

Weird, I have the same superpower, but with tea. I also have the amazing ability to put the kettle on to boil and then forget about it for hours. (I always disable the whistle, because I hate it.)

I've thought about getting one of those USB cup warmers, but where's the fun in that?

I received a USB cup warmer as a present, but its active area is just smaller than most of my mugs. As a result, the mug does not get direct contact with the surface and it only slows down the cooling instead of preventing it.

I used to overthink why my tea got cold and my soda got warm when the space they were in was the same temp. Once I figured that the Gods mock us all the time, I let it go.

Mmm. :D The rhyton's *gorgeous*. I'm stalking their ovensafe bowls, though. Yeah, no dragons or greenmen on 'em, but just look at that curve and that blue... Shepherd's pie bowls, those are. Thank you for the link!

(I can see it now: tomorrow, the potters will have been swamped and swept clean. In two weeks, it'll happen again. Wonder whether they'll have any idea what happened... XD )

Of course, the tech geek in me thinks "But they make coffee warmers now where you put your mug on it and it keeps your coffee/tea warm!"

I tend to let my tea get cold, too. For a while a smaller mug helped prevent this. Then I got a tiny hotplate that keeps my tea at potable temperature.

But that is an awesome mug.

i have a very similarly shaped drinking container, only it's a dragon. i got it at ren faire, which is primarily where i use it - and it keeps me from setting down my mead and forgetting where. :D

When you started the post I thought you'd found one of the USB warmers or something of that ilk, but a gorgeous mug that forces you to stop and Pay Attention to the coffee is a much much better answer, aside from keeping the keyboard safe from stray coffee. Thank you too for the pointer - they do have lovely, lovely things.

That is freaking hilarious.

Make sure to avoid any devices that might complicate your solution. I can just see wedging that thing between cushions, or maybe someone will build a special coaster that- you know what, I'm just going to stop.

That particular piece is lovely but, looking at the seller, everything else they are offering strikes me as ugly at the moment.
