So shadesong  did this post a little while ago, and I've seen a couple others mirror it, as viralness in the name of the public good is always worthy. I want to do the same, since, well, there are kind of a lot of you out there reading this.

So, please do not be shy. You rarely get what you need without asking for it.

What do you need?

Not "What do you want?" Which is an entirely different question. But what do you need? Are you looking for an apartment, a job, a ride to somewhere, assistance with something? Comment here, and maybe I or one of my readers can help you! The internet makes miracles, we all know it. Read the comments, and see if there's something you can offer.

Two Things: One for me, one for a friend

I need help for my friend Mandi, who has several massive autoimmune disorders and will soon be hospitalized for an extended stay to monitor her symptoms. The help she needs is for a litter of kittens. She graciously took in a stray pregnant kitten, who gave birth to four kits, three males and a female. Mandi has been the primary caregiver while her husband works long hours. As of October 19th, Mandi will begin her hospital stay, and if she can't find people to take the kittens, she and her husband may have to take them to a shelter, which would break her heart. Mandi and her husband already have two adult cats and don't have room for more right now.
They live in Westminster, MD.

These photos were taken in July, about a week or two after the litter was born. The kittens are now two months old. All five of them (this includes the young mother kitten) need permanent homes.
Mandi can be contacted through her profile as well as that post. Again: Westminster, MD. Near Baltimore/Towson.

I too, need something: I need a job. I live in Gaithersburg, MD. I am legally disabled and am in the DC Metro area's Metro Access program. I have worked in downtown DC, so as long as I can get to a job via bus or metro, I'm good. I worked for six years in a law firm library, then seven months in another law firm library. Before all that, I did various administrative jobs. I have a BA in Creative Writing.

We don't have anything in our database right now except one position which requires some heavy lifting of boxes as part of the position (not a good choice). I wrote you name down and I"ll keep my eyes open.

We have 2 offices - one on Key West Ave (Metro bus stop right in front) and another right near Farragut North.

I've done library work in general - five years worth, in fact - though not so much in the way of law library work (though when I worked at the HUD I did have the duty of keeping the various government publications up to date), so I'm not sure whether my skill-set might match anything y'all are looking for - but I'm an underemployed person living in Takoma Park and I would really like to stay in my field if possible. And also I can lift things. So. Yeah. Any chance for me?

I live in Baltimore—although I can't personally take any cats, I'll amplify the signal to the people I know in the area to see if anyone has room. They are certainly adorable.

Oh, they are precious. Wish I didn't live on the opposite end of the country.

All I can suggest for the job is Craigslist, although I imagine you've tried that.

http://hubblespacepaws.blogspot.com/ Hubble Space Paws may be a good Baltimore-based contact site for finding Mandi's cats homes. I'd forward the info on myself, but while I see flyers in the office, I don't actually know who is working on what right now.

Hey,

I haven't read the other replies yet, so I don't know if someone helped you with this; but I work for an animal rescue in Harwood, MD and I can probably help your friend re-home her kittens. If there are still any that need homes, I can ask the owners if we have room for them (and we probably will, not to mention kittens go fast) and I'm willing to come pick them up myself so that nobody has to go out of their way. Harwood's a bit far from Westminster, after all.

I know a shelter isn't what your friend or her husband want to do (from the sound of it), but our rescue is cage-free and they'd have plenty of space and things to run and play on.

... not to mention they're adorable, and I'm so tempted to adopt one myself ): Too bad I already have three little guys.

Thank you so much!

Go ahead and leave this information on that post in Mandi's journal so you two can set up contact information. She knows that I have been reaching out to my friends list. Any help is appreciated. As of right now, all of the kittens still need homes.

Mandi has told me that if she must take them to a shelter, she would want to send them to a place where they would be well taken care of and played with. Your place sounds ideal!

Will do! I'll link her to the shelter too, so she can see what the place looks like. Some of the rooms have webcams where you can watch the cats play.

I'll also give the owners a call, since I don't want to make any promises. It's very unlikely that they'll turn them away; even if they don't have room at the shelter, they'll put them up for adoption while a volunteer fosters them.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up! Good luck with finding what you need.

Great. I know that right now, Mandi will try to find homes for the kittens herself. But having a rescue shelter as an option - especially one willing to come to her - would be great. She is too sick to travel beyond doctor offices and hospitals these days.

And I just spoke to your friend, so, love, thank you SO much. This may be the right answer, given my health limitations. I'll miss those little guys, and hate to see them go, but with the exception of one person coming to see them Friday - no bites :( And I worry so, so much about them, especially little Claudio. He needs so much attention :( But this sounds like a good option, so I mentioned I'd be in touch after Friday!

Thanks again for helping out. It means a lot to me.

Oh, honey, you are so welcome. And who knows, maybe all four babies and the mom will be adopted quickly there! I'd recommend keeping in touch with the place, naturally!

Claudio should come with a note: Needs Extra Love And Cuddles!
