Gaiman is a good writer, but he is so adored that he wins nearly everything he's nominated for--that's the nature of that kind of love.

I definitely won't dispute the fact that he's a good writer; Good Omens and American Gods are both in my top ten favorite novels list, for sure :) It's just that his poetry very often falls flat for me.

Haven't read the poem in question, but Gaiman often at least has the decency to write in some interestingly technical form, which is better than most of the SF poetry I encounter. But he is developing his own "Vernor Vinge wrote a book this year" phenomenon with the awards, I grant.
